Community Statement for Camp Promise-East

March 27, 2020

Dear Friends,

It is with a heavy heart that we must postpone Jett Foundation‘s Camp Promise-East for the planned week of June 8 – June 13, 2020 this summer. In conversations with the host camp facility, they have made the difficult decision to keep the campground closed in June for the safety of all campers and rental groups, including Camp Promise. With the current climate, the facility believes it is too great of a health and safety risk to have campers onsite in June. Other Camp Promise sessions are currently planning to run as scheduled.

Right now, we are having ongoing, regular conversations with our facility partners regarding Camp Promise-East and possibilities for the 2020 season and are in communication with other similar camp programs. As a lot is still unknown regarding the trajectory of COVID-19 and the transition back to our day-to-day lives, we want to be thoughtful in our plans for Camp Promise-East. We will be providing you with updates over the next few weeks as we learn more from our partners.

We know that social distancing is hard on everyone – parents, campers, and volunteers – and adjusting to a new normal can feel uncomfortable. To help keep our community connected, Jett Foundation and Camp Promise will be offering online activities and events over the next few weeks. While not the same as being together at camp, we hope that these virtual activities – laid out in the schedule below – will help bring campers, volunteers and Camp Promise staff together during these challenging and unprecedented times.

Please visit https://www.camppromise.org/camp-promise-virtual-hangout-hour to see a full list of activities and to sign up for those you are interested in.

This decision was not easy for our facility partner and, of course, we are disappointed. However, the safety of our campers is always our top priority. We will reach out with new information and updates as it becomes available.

If you have questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Sincerely,

Shannon Healey & Meghan Houston
